Assistance & Maintenance

A CUSTOMER ASSIGNS BIERRE AUTOMAZION TO REVAMP ITS ENTIRE PACKAGIN LINE.

Our needs

A customer contacted Bierre Automazioni early 2019 following various setbacks encountered on line B, which limited production considering most of the products are produced from this line representing the company’s core business.
This line produces a bottleneck, the palletizer; which fails to meet the growing demand for production despite various extraordinary maintenance.
Unfortunately the palletizer fails to feed the packing machine, reducing the line’s efficiency; moreover the safety circuits monitoring the machine do not meet the Presumption of conformity conferred by the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC.
In a nutshell these are our customers’ requirements:

  • Updating QE to eliminate obsolete electric / electronic equipment;
  • Updating the safety circuit;
  • Installing a new line of pallet warehouse load;
  • Train and empower operators to maximise machine productivity.

Bierre Automazioni’s intervention was required to ensure packaging lines’ downtime, during Christmas holidays only.

The solution

Bierre Automazioni offers and carries out complete revamping on palletizers, to ensure optimal response to customer’s demands(security and productivity), and use the communication protocol between the safety circuit and the machine’s programmable controller (Industrial Protocol between PLC and SAFETY PLC), thus improving communication with the operator in fault situations.
Bierre Automazioni has to tackle a great challenge represented by limited time and various resources available; as a result it decides to adopt a new managerial system for better stakeholder project management including costumer’s maintenance manager, stepping up cooperation between the parties.
The following interventions are thus implemented to the “new” palletizer:

  • New pallet warehouse load line, with bi-directional roller entry conveyors, for multiple pallet format loading;
  • Optimising the electrical switchboard;
  • General mechanical maintenance;
  • Validating safety circuits and Safety PLC software;
  • Staff safety education training;
  • Comprehensive machine testing.

RESULTS

“It is widely known that a project developed and executed from scratch, does not require certain observations and in particular does not imply interacting with decisions taken in the past by other designers unknown to us. These interventions are complex and companies producing machines/installations now tend to avoid total revamping, proposing new machinery rather than optimising existing ones.
Bierre Automations has chosen to handle abandoned plants deemed “inconvenient” under several points of view, to fully meet customer needs and optimise its plants in the short term through predictive maintenance in the long term, ensuring better safety and production standards.
Our customer is a witness of the knowledge and passion of our entire staff for this project with the goal to obtain the best outcome expected.”
